Organizational Development (OD) is a form of consulting in which the consultant partners with the organization, providing structures and processes through which the resources and expertise within the organization can be maximized, thereby producing the desired results. Organizational Development views the organization as a whole system with interrelated parts. The consultant works with an organization to assess issues, needs, and goals, and is able to address issues at their root in order to effect long term solutions, rather than merely patching symptoms. OD is effective through adjusting the structures to best serve the organization, and creating integration between organizational subsystems. This aligns the entire organization enabling it to work efficiently, effectively, and easily toward a unified direction. The direction taken is that which follows the organizational vision and mission, and is driven by the organization's values.
